Technology can be defined as evolving problem solving skills that incorporate our available resources to increase productivity and efficiency. It can also be said that technology helps us revise old processes that may be more effective than new ideas. Technology involves man's ability to control nature.
In order to use technology correctly we must become educated to understand the tools which we are given to solve problems. As with standard education, technology education creates a base of knowledge using credible information to help students realize their potential through direct and inquiry based learning. Technology education involves giving students a solid base that may be used to increase knowledge, induce exploration and discovery, and further skills and experience.
A solid base of education gives the students confidence they can use to become increasingly literate. Literacy can only increase through the use of technology. Literacy is the ability to understand and evaluate technology, technological processes, and general patterns that transcend a specific technology.
Being technologically literate is having the ability to use, manage, assess, and understand technology and the application to real world situations.
