Chapter 4: Point of view and attitude
“Point of view is the conceptual position adopted by the designer following a thorough analysis of the area under discussion.” Attitude is the designer’s manifestation of personality and preferences in their work. The use of certain symbols and colors in design projects shows the artists feelings about the subject of their work, and that display of feelings has the power to influence the audience. Symbols and colors have certain mental associations. Some are very powerful, and referred to as “loaded” symbols. To convey the proper attitude, the artist needs to become familiar with the audience of the project.

This image was used by a company called Formway who's goal is to creat products that enable the user to 'feel' a certian way. This image was used to introduce the new 'Life' chair. This chair has a new innovative balanced and flexible design. This image uses the soft colors and the environmental backdrop to create a texture that is a feeling of balance and innovation and comfort.

Value and texture
Value and texture are two elements that effect the appearance of a surface. Value can be divided into two categories, the first being flat values. Flat values of color are best used with text, shapes, and simple representations. The second is continuous tone. This is exemplified in photos, paintings, and other realistic representations. Value is measured by percentage, with 100% being a solid color, to 0% being no color. Value’s percentage can be varied in many ways, to create both contrast and similarity of color, which influences how the viewer perceives the design. Texture enhances images and can also be used as a decorative tool in design. Text, in its different sizes and weights, is an example of texture. The texture of a design also communicates a certain feel to the viewer.
Texture
The tactile quality of a surface or the representation of such a surface quality is texture. In the visual arts, there are two different kinds of texture: tactile and visual. Tactile textures are real' we can actually feel their surfaces with our fingers. Visual textures are illusionary; they simply give the impression of real textures.
Compare the rough visual textures of the type and visual in the poster of the bike below to the many intricate visual textures in the in the package design to the right of the bike.

The tactile quality of a surface or the representation of such a surface quality is a texture. There are 2 categories:
Tactile Textures
Visual Textures
Patterns, that can be defined as a repetitive arrangement of elements, like a plad shirt, can help create a texture type of feeling.
